“For the week ending 29 September, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council staff have completed a number of concrete and asphalt repairs,” said Mayor Thompson. “Concrete repairs were completed at Tom Lesslie Drive, Tank Street, Mort Street and Pozieres Street,” said Mayor Thompson. “Additionally, asphalt road improvements were conducted at Methven Street, Silcock Street, Academy Street, Andrew Street and Stewart Street. Upcoming works will also be commencing shortly at Enfield Avenue and John Street for the completion of asphalt resealing projects. Affected residents have been consulted regarding these two projects,” said Mayor Thompson.

“In the last week Council’s rural works staff have continued their focus on the completion of two major renewal projects on Hazelgrove Road, Tarana and Cuthill Road, Sodwalls,” noted Mayor Thompson. “The preparation of these projects are complete and are currently running to the adopted budget. Additional to this work, preparation works have commenced on Glen Davis Road and Magpie Hollow Road. Tenders have been received from external contractors to seal these assets in the coming weeks. While works continue in these areas, I strongly urge residents to exhibit caution and adhere to signposted changes to traffic conditions.”

“Lastly, I’d like to note that it is common for Council to receive many requests from the community regarding requests for changes to speed limits across the region,” said Mayor Thompson. “While Council appreciates the community acting proactively with regard to their safety concerns, local Councils are not delegated to change speed restrictions on any public road. This remains the responsibility of the Roads and Maritime Services. While Council will respond in all instances to acknowledge receipt of the correspondence, any such request made to Council must be forwarded directly to the RMS for their review and comment”, said Mayor Thompson. “Additional to this, I’d like to remind all residents that where roads have no posted speed limit, default speed limits apply of 50km/hr in urban areas and 100km/hr on all other roads.
