Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Graeme Moore congratulated Council’s AFL partner Richmond Football Club on their 2019 AFL Grand Final win over the weekend.
“On behalf of Cardinia Shire Council, I would like to congratulate all the players and every one behind the scenes at Richmond Football Club for their impressive win in this year’s AFL Grand Final!” the Mayor said.
"All the players, team captain Trent Cotchin and coach Damien Hardwick, should be very proud of the hard work and dedication that has gone into this achievement.
With success in the AFL grand final, including 12 wins in a row to finish the season, and success in the VFL grand final, the club’s consistent performance is sweet reward for everyone involved, including the faithful fans.
“Special congratulations to Dustin Martin who again received the Norm Smith Medal for his stellar efforts during the Grand Final. His humble acceptance of this honour complemented the way his fellow teammates showed their well wishes to the Giants’ players, umpires, and coaches on the field, and was a credit to the club and the AFL.
“The club has a strong following in Cardinia Shire and Council is proud to partner with Richmond Football Club who demonstrate time and again their passion for connecting people through sport in Melbourne’s south east region.
"It has been wonderful to welcome the players to our local grounds throughout this year. They are an inspiration to our local aspiring athletes and football fans from across the Casey Cardinia region relish the chance to see the players up close. We look forward to continuing this partnership and the region’s support of the club into next year.
"Once again, an incredible effort – well done, congratulations, and enjoy every glorious moment of celebration!"
