The Mount Noorat walking track will be closed to users next week as improvements are made to the surface.
Environment Projects Officer Roland Herbert said the track would be upgraded from the entrance to the viewing platform.
“In addition to upgrading the track, a bench seat will be installed at the viewing platform and the picnic table will be upgraded at the beginning of the track,” Mr Herbert said.
The whole project is due for completion by the end of October.
“Closing the track is necessary so the track works can be completed as quickly as possible, in order to improve this amazing community asset for all visitors.”
The track will be closed from Monday 7 October until Friday 11 October.
People will still be able to access to the mount via a gated vehicle access track on Morack Street near the Glenormiston Road intersection.
From there a track leads up the valley to the viewing platform and summit.
The $40,000 project is funded by the State Government’s Pick my Project Grant program.
“The project supports one of the five objectives in the Mount Noorat Management Plan: that walking tracks are accessible, well-maintained and cater for diverse experiences,” Mr Herbert said.
“It will ensure the Noorat Community and visitors can safely navigate the dormant volcano and experience the site in their own way.
“This project will stimulate further interest in the Noorat region, creating flow-on benefits to the local economy.”
Upgrading the informal track and installing new infrastructure is a priority of the Noorat Community Plan and supported by the Noorat Progress Association.
