Smart Parking strategy to go live for Yeppoon Lagoon Precinct and Town Centre

Mayor Bill Ludwig says the change will see the proposed one-hour time limit within the CBD Area of Normanby, James, Hill and Mary Streets adjusted to a two-hour time limit.

“Council Officers were asked to undertake further face-to-face consultation with businesses within the proposed one-hour limit area to discuss concerns raised by a number of businesses and reconfirm what time limit was preferred. The majority of feedback has indicated that a two-hour time limit would be more effective in satisfying business needs,” Mayor Ludwig said.

“Council is pleased to have been able to respond proactively in a timely manner, by resolving to amend the proposed time limits, and would like to thank participating businesses for their early feedback.”

Council officers will undertake further consultation of businesses in six months’ time to gauge the effectiveness of the regulated parking in relation to customers’ ability to access businesses.

The introduction of regulated free parking areas in the Yeppoon Town Centre will operate between 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 12pm on Saturdays.

Unlimited free parking will still be available at the multistorey carpark and nearby off street carparks on the corners of Queen and Hill streets and Queen and Barry Streets.

All car parking in the CBD and foreshore will remain free with the exception of 82 car spaces immediately adjacent to the Yeppoon Lagoon, which will be regulated with paid parking of $2 per hour.

There are four cashless pay stations located throughout the Lagoon precinct or alternatively, patrons can make payments via the Capricorn Coast Parking App. The mobile phone App will inform users when their time is almost up and they will have the option to extend their stay with a top-up.
