The Shire is turning pink for a good cause

The Shire of Harvey’s community development team is getting behind the McGrath Foundation’s Pink Up Your Town initiative in the month of October.

Pink Up Your Town is an initiative run through the McGrath Foundation in which communities come together to pink up their town to raise vital funds that support specialist McGrath Breast Care Nurses and support local families experiencing breast cancer.

More than 40 volunteer committees and businesses in the Shire have got on board to turn the community pink and to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Community and Economic Development Manager Patrick Quinlivan said it was great to see a number of events being held across the month of October in the Shire to raise funds and awareness for the great cause.

“Initiatives like this add vibrancy to the community while raising funds for a good cause,” he said.

“It is great to see so many businesses and community organisations getting on board and is a reminder of the enthusiastic, generous community members in our Shire.”

Some of the events include Pink Up nights in conjunction with local Community Resource Centres and morning teas, along with more than 30 businesses having a collection tin for community members to make a donation towards the Shire of Harvey’s Pink Up Your Town fundraising efforts.
