The community is invited to have their say on six key elements being proposed for the future enhancement of the
The Precinct currently contains a significant number of Council’s community facilities, and accommodates a diverse range of sporting and community groups, including Croydon Library.
The six key elements have been identified through consultation with current key users of the precinct as well as broader consultation with the community in November 2018.
Maroondah Mayor Councillor Rob Steane encouraged members of the community to provide feedback on the proposed six key elements that will help shape a future masterplan for the Croydon Community Precinct.
Proposed elements enhanced community wellbeing facilities enhanced family and children facilities enhanced sport and recreation facilities enhanced open space enhanced accessibility and connectivity potential development sites.Cr Steane said a masterplan would help guide the future redevelopment of the Precinct, with a focus being on improved connectivity with the key aspects of the area, including recreational hubs, retail, the newly built Croydon Town Square, services and public transport.
“Initial preparation for a draft masterplan commenced over 12 months ago, and included consultation with key user groups currently located within the Precinct,” Cr Steane said.
“Council also undertook a review of all the buildings in the Precinct and found most facilities were coming to the end of their useful life and would require significant work in the next 5 to 10 years,” he said.
“Given the age of some of these facilities, many of them require improvements to ensure we can meet the anticipated community needs and service requirements well into the future.”
The Croydon Community Precinct is already home to a number of Council’s community and sporting facilities, including Aquahub, a Maternal & Child Health Centre, EV’s Youth Centre, Maroondah Occasional Care Centre and Keystone Hall.
Cr Steane encouraged people to have their say on the key elements, as this would help to shape the future vision for the precinct.
“Thanks to everyone who has previously had their say on the future of the precinct at last year’s Maroondah Festival,” Cr Steane said.
“The feedback we received was extremely positive and we’ve been able to capture the community’s vision to determine common themes for the Precinct and have come up with six key elements,” he said.
“The new Croydon Community Precinct will create opportunities for social connection, improved health and wellbeing, linkages to our cultural and heritage history, as well as flexibility to meet current and future needs of the community,” Cr Steane said.
