Wodonga Tennis Centre is set to host Tennis Victoria’s Country Week in 2023.
The event will also be held in Wodonga in February next year and will be a major economic boost for the community.
More than 1200 people are expected to attend the five-day event with more than $2million to be spent in the city.
“Our region has a strong sporting tradition and we are proud to be selected to host Country Week again ahead of next year’s tournament being played in Wodonga,” Wodonga Mayor Cr Anna Speedie said.
“It represents an economic boost of more than $2 million over the week-long competition which reflect how important it is as a city to attract events – be it sporting or entertainment – like these.
“It’s one of the reasons we invest in our recreation facilities and we look forward to welcoming teams from far and wide.”
Teams will be coming from towns such as Mildura, Swan Hill, Gippsland and Geelong.
Country Week welcomes more than 1200 participants each year to a regional location in Country Victoria.
Host partners of Country Week must be able to provide a minimum of 95 grass courts at the host venue – a feature of Country Week that makes it quite unique.
“Country Week is a highlight of the tennis calendar in Victoria, showcasing talent from across the state, Tennis Victoria chief executive officer Ruth Holdaway said.
“Tennis Victoria looks forward to working closely with these great venues and their supporting partners to ensure Country Week continues to thrive, providing fun, social connection and great tennis experiences for all our participants and spectators.”
