Apollo Bay boat ramp car park sealing complete

A major upgrade of the Apollo Bay Harbour Boat Trailer car park is mostly complete with only minor works required to finish the project.

Colac Otway Shire Council’s Acting Infrastructure and Leisure Services General Manager Frank Castles said resealing of the area was complete and no further car park closures were required.

“The car park has been fully sealed with only minor works such as line marking, landscaping and some drainage alterations left to finish,” Mr Castles said.

“We expect to have the project completed by the end of October, with the car park to remain open and fully operational during that time.”

The major project was funded primarily through the State Boating Safety and Facilities Program with a grant of $689,547.

“It’s great to see the port recognised by the State Boating Safety and Facilities Program as a significant local asset,” Mr Castles said.

“Council is really excited to deliver this project to the Apollo Bay and boating communities.

“Unfortunately the project was set-back due to poor weather conditions and the sub-base requiring more work than expected.

“The end result is delivery of a long-lasting, quality parking area for boat owners and visitors that will service the port now, and for years to come.

“The upgrades to the car park have provided a fantastic improvement to the look of the area and made the port much more accessible.

“Council is committed to ensuring use of the car park is optimised for all users, including the Apollo Bay Sailing Club who have a boat storage area within the car park. This space is allocated to them for this purpose under the Crown Land lease and licence.

“The compliance team from Council will continue to monitor the car park area to ensure all users have best-available access to the facility,” Mr Castles said.
