Official Media Release from NSW Government Transport Roads and Maritime Services Friday, 4 October 2019
Motorists are advised of changes to speed limits to improve safety in the Yass Valley Local Government Area from next week.
Transport for NSW carried out a review of speed zones at various locations at the request of Yass Valley Council in response to community concerns.
Transport for NSW Regional Director South West, Lindsay Tanner said the reviews recommended changes to some existing speed limits due to changes in traffic and increased residential development in the area.
“The 100 km/h speed zone on Yass River Road will be reduced to 80 km/h on a 5.5 kilometre section of Yass River Road, from Yass Valley Way to one kilometre east of Manton Road,” Mr Tanner said.
“The 100 km/h speed zone on Wee Jasper Road will be decreased to 80 km/h on a two kilometre section from Victoria Street to a point 300 metres south of Yarraman Park.
“In addition, the 60 km/h speed zone on Bowning Road which provides connections to the Hume Highway will also be reduced to 50 km/h for its full length.
“These new speed zones will provide consistency and increased safety where they are implemented.”
The new speed limits will be in effect from Wednesday 9 October.
Signs will be in place to advise motorists of the changed traffic conditions. Road users are asked to keep an eye out for the changes and follow the directions of signs.
Members of the community can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area and to have a say on speed limits.
