Local Talents Bring Parkland to Life

Western Downs Regional Council is delivering a day of family fun and live music to the Chinchilla Botanic Parkland as a value-add event to the Groovin’ into Town initiative.

Groovin’ into Town was rolled out last year as a way of activating public spaces by bringing the community together to enjoy live music performed by local artists.

Picnic in the Parkland builds on this idea, inviting residents and visitors to enjoy the new space with the addition of family-friendly activities and food and beverage stalls.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire is delighted by how well received this initiative has been.

“Groovin’ into Town brings our public spaces to life while showing support and creating opportunities for the local talents in the Western Downs,” she said.

“This is a great way to utilise our vibrant public spaces and it excites me seeing them filled with people enjoying themselves.

“I think this event will be particularly great fun, it’s the perfect setting and a fantastic way to spend the public holiday relaxing with family and friends.”

There will be a range of activities for the family to enjoy, including a merry-go-round, rock-climbing wall, face painting and giant games.

The neighbouring museum will also be opening their doors for those attendees wanting to enjoy the miniature train rides.

Local acts including the Chinchilla Concert Band, Mrs Klaude, Chinchilla Big Band, C&C Balladeers, Steve Taylor, Yvette Bracefield and Jane Zerbst will be performing throughout the day.

The event will be held on Monday 7 October from 11am to 4pm.
