The City of Ballarat is pleased with the uptake at its Pass on Glass drop-off sites and encouraged by the enthusiasm of the Ballarat community.
During the first week of operation an average 700-750kg of glass was dropped off per day Our first weekend of operation was exceptional with approximately 1,200kg each day, which exceeded Council’s planned service expectations This translates to just over six tonnes per week of clean, and sourced separated glass for research and development purposesOver the weekend, due to the demand, all sites were inspected multiple times each day.
Officers are now monitoring each site to determine what adjustments to the service are required to meet demand.
In the meantime, residents are being urged to be courteous and conscious of not over filling the skip bins at the eight designated drop-off sites.
If residents do turn up to find any of the bins full or in the process of being replaced, they can take their glass bottles and jars to Council’s Gilles Street Transfer Station, which has a larger capacity. Residents are NOT required to use vouchers at this glass drop-off location – it is free.
The Transfer Station is open Monday-Friday: 8am-4pm. Weekends and Public Holidays: 10am-4pm.
Currently all glass drop-off sites are:
Having red tape fitted to each skip bin advising users not to fill above the line Inspected every morning to ensure cleanliness and safety and on call as required.
