This month is Walk to School month!
VicHealth’s Walk to School program is a free, easy and fun way to get primary school students and families active. During October, primary school students across the state are encouraged to walk, ride or scoot to and from school to help build healthy habits for life.
It’s a great way to help children achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity every day, as well as make a positive difference to our health, environment and community.
Walk with your kids and enjoy the chance to talk with them and teach them road safety skills while getting active yourself.
Tips for active travel to school If you can’t walk the whole way, try parking the car a few blocks from your school and walk the rest. Walk with other school friends or family members to chat with along the way. If you don’t live walking distance from your school, try riding a bike or scooter. Local schoolsWe’re working with local schools to help make Walk to School bigger and better in 2019. It’s not too late to get your school involved. By joining, they’ll be in the running for great prizes, including a smoothie blender bike!
