Tanunda Show Hall redevelopment

The Barossa is set to boast a premier events venue as work begins on a $1.5M redevelopment of Tanunda Show Hall.

The Hall is the largest regional venue for undercover community events, catering for up to 1200 people.

Construction began last week and includes:

• Improved event capacity • Enhanced kitchen and canteen facilities • Upgraded stage access • Green room • New roof with insulation • User group storage • Poultry shed with collapsible cages to free space for other community purposes • Courtside storage, shelter and viewing for tennis and netball • Upgraded external toilet facilities

Deputy Mayor, John Angas, said the upgraded venue would reinforce the Barossa’s reputation as an “events destination” and attract more high-calibre events to the region.

“The Barossa is already well-known for large-scale music events like the Melodienacht and Kaffee Abend. We’re confident improved facilities will be a drawcard for contemporary new events and artists, as well as those we know and love,” he said.

"Commercial grade kitchen facilities are also important for food and wine events, community fundraisers and festivals such as the Barossa Vintage Festival.

“Importantly, we’ll be keeping the traditional integrity of the building intact, including the stage and the shell-grit floor that’s unique to the Barossa.”

Paul Brown from BGI Building Group, which was awarded the tender, said the project would be predominantly built using locals from start to finish.

“We are really lucky to have excellent tradespeople working for us and approximately 90 per cent of the contractors used on the project will be Barossa locals. Keeping it local is a very important part of our business,” Mr Brown said.

Work began with replacement of the show hall roof and the project is expected to be complete early in 2020.
