With Spring in full swing, the Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) healthy communities’ initiative, the CHANGE Project, is offering Hula Hooping classes for both adults and children, as well as Zumba for Kids.

TRC Parks and Recreation Portfolio Leader, Cr Joe Ramia said that Hula Hooping might sound like its’ only child’s play, but also has a number of benefits for adults.

“The world has twirled its way into an active lifestyle since 1958, when Spud Melin and Richard Kerr invented the toy hula hoop, although some suggest that the hoop has been with us for thousands of years,” Cr Ramia said.

“Hula Hooping is a great low impact activity for strengthening and toning, in a fun and social environment.

“The CHANGE project session, offered by Melanie, will give participants an introduction to hooping and guide them through challenges and tricks on how to hoop at home. The session is aimed at all abilities and is all-inclusive.

“Both Hula Hooping classes take place at Queens Park (Lindsay St). Adults classes are on Wednesday at 11.30 am, and Kids Hula Hooping classes (ages 7 years and over) is Wednesday at 3.30 pm.

“Zumba Kids is also available at Laurel Bank Park (Hill St) on Tuesday at 3.30 pm. All activities will cost $3.00 and held during the school term only.

“The TRC CHANGE project provides affordable health and fitness options for the Toowoomba Region community, including these weekly Hula Hoop classes, to support and promote positive and mental wellbeing.”
