Friday, October 18, 2019, 8am – 5pm Brisbane City Council is committed to working with residents to foster inclusive and liveable communities. Brisbane is a great place to live, work and relax — it’s a vibrant, green and prosperous city, valued for its friendly and optimistic character and enjoyable lifestyle. Council, in partnership with Carers Queensland, is proud to present the exhibition What makes your life better? as a part of National Carers Week 2019. One in eight Australian’s care for a family member or friend, and without their outstanding contribution, Brisbane would be a poorer place. We asked carers “What makes your life better?” and received a collection of short essays and poems, accompanied by an image of something that makes a difference - a person, a place, a moment or something to love. The submissions are very personal and touch on the things people do to sustain themselves as they navigate the rollercoaster of highs and lows of being a carer. We invite you to share in this intimate and heartfelt experience, celebrating carers. You can view the submissions via our online gallery. This exhibition follows last year’s ‘Why do I care’, which told stories of who our carers are and why they care. Come and see ‘What makes your life better?’ at the People’s Gallery at Brisbane City Hall. Council has been given permission by the exhibition entrants to republish all words and images used.
