Not Just for Laughs returns to the Western Downs

Some of Australia’s most talented performers will converge on the Western Downs in November as the popular comedy event Not Just for Laughs returns for a fifth year.

Renowned comedians Cal Wilson and Brett Blake will head up three evenings of laughter and entertainment as part of a continued push to boost community resilience across the region.

Meandarra, Wandoan and Warra will all play host to this year’s tours, with special guest musicians ‘STOMP ft. James Johnston’ to raise the roof as part of the all-star line-up.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said it had become an integral part of our annual social calendar and a vital way to lift community spirits.

“Not Just for Laughs is just as its name would suggest – a free event which allows us to break down barriers and come together as one, while also having a bit of fun,” Cr McVeigh said.

“Our community really needs to rally together right now, and that’s why we also work closely with our community groups to help drive the event and further strengthen mateship in the region.”

More than 700 residents attended last year’s events with hundreds of dollars raised from food and drink purchases for local community groups to deliver new projects and initiatives for locals.

The first Not Just for Laughs 2019 event will take place at the Meandarra School of Arts Hall on Thursday, 14 November, followed by the Wandoan Cultural Centre on Friday, 15 November and finally at the Warra Memorial Hall on Saturday, 16 November.

Doors open at 6pm, with the show commencing at 7:30pm.

Scrumptious food and beverages will be for sale (cash only) and served by local community groups, with all profits going back to these community groups.

Free public transport will also be offered to residents again this year, residents are encouraged to contact Council on 1300 COUNCIL for more information.
