Western Downs Libraries are transforming into Fun Palaces over coming weeks as part of an incentive to put a fun and creative spin on maths and science.
The free initiative is even bigger and brighter this year and aims to engage young families in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM).
Fun Palaces will take place at Chinchilla, Dalby and Tara Libraries over coming weeks following the highly successful event held at Wandoan Library last month, which saw around 100 people take part in a morning of free activities.
Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said families across the region were always thrilled to join in on the activities, with this year’s series offering new and exciting learning opportunities.
“These events are becoming more popular, attracting an average of around 2,000 attendees each year, and they provide a great opportunity for our community members to engage with state-of-the-art technology while spending quality time with their friends and family,” Cr Maguire said.
“The virtual reality technology and green screen activities have proven extremely popular in previous years and will make a return as part of this year’s events, as well as other interactive fun including Kinect Touch Screen Shoot Out, Plasma Ball, and an Imagination Station.
“To learn, create, and have the chance to ask those burning questions about science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics in a safe, fun, creative space is something Council is passionate about offering to our communities.”
All Fun Palaces events are free and open for everyone to attend. Bookings are not required.
