Votes are in for MOREE Community Exercise Stations The votes are in and the Moree community will soon be able to enjoy exercising in the great outdoors using new static exercise stations at the Mehi River Corridor. Council recently sought community feedback in relation to the most appropriate design for static exercise equipment at the parkland opposite Kirkby Park. Voting was open for two weeks and Council is thrilled with the response from the community on the survey which asked residents to vote for their favourite static exercise equipment design from a choice of three. The votes have now been counted and the design deemed to be most popular was Option 3 (pictured below) which was the clear choice by the community. “Council was very pleased with the positive response from the community in voting for their favourite design,” explained General Manager, Lester Rodgers. “Council made a commitment to involve the community in this project and this is important to ensure we deliver a project that will be well-utilised by residents and visitors alike. “Modern parks are no longer just about playgrounds. They are community spaces where residents and visitors can enjoy a whole range of activities and facilities can be utilised by everyone. “For some years now, community members have been very vocal about their desire for equipment such as this within the Shire. So we are very pleased that this equipment will soon be able to be enjoyed by the community.” Works on the Mehi River Corridor project are being undertaken directly by Council, through its Engineering Services team. Project and Development Manager, Lila Fisher noted that “The equipment is geared towards low impact exercise. The various stations will be easy-to-use, suitable for different skill levels and when used as a circuit will result in an effective whole body workout. “The static exercise equipment will help improve health outcomes for the whole community and can be utilised by residents of all ages and levels of fitness” This project is made possible following a $402,554 investment by NSW Government through the Stronger Country Communities Fund together with a $100,000 contribution by Council. This funding will see a large area of parkland along the Mehi River developed to create a beautiful space where residents and visitors can exercise and relax. “Council looks forward to delivering this wonderful project to the community. It is something we can all be very proud of and could not have been achieved without the continued support and enthusiasm from our community,” said Mr Rodgers.
