Successful Farmer’s Long Lunch at Capertee

A large crowd gathered at Capertee Royal Hotel on Sunday 13 October for the Farmers Long Lunch with over 70 members of the local community coming together for a day of music, dancing, sharing food and stories.

Local band the Blow Flies entertained the crowd all afternoon, while regenerative farmer Colin Seis taught the principles of pasture cropping and sustainable farming. Local farmers had a chance to talk in depth with Colin about their experiences of living and farming through the drought.

Sonia Cox from the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program was on hand to talk with locals and let everyone know about the many services available in the community to deal with the stresses of farming during the drought.

The Farmer’s long lunch is just one of a series of events presented by Lithgow City Council and the Commonwealth Government Drought Communities Program. Events still to come include the Hartley Picnic under the Stars on Saturday November 2, Lithgow Blast Music Concert at Lithgow Blast Furnace on Saturday 16 November, the Hampton Farmers Long Arvo on Saturday November 23 and the Colin Seis Sustainable Farming Workshop on Sunday November 24.
