Marie Street to be reverted to two-way traffic

Nagambie road users will see Marie Street, between High Street northbound and High Street southbound, return back to a two way intersection, with works to be completed in the coming weeks.

Council’s decision comes in response to a petition from members of the Nagambie community requesting Marie Street be reverted.

The petition was presented to Council in May and after discussions with VicRoads and Victoria Police, Council has resolved to revert Marie Street back to two way traffic.

Strathbogie Shire Council Acting CEO, Phil Howard said the one-way flow was implemented as the approved plan included the provision of bus parking in Marie Street and continued angled parking along Jacobsons Outlook, but this plan has since changed.

“The reduction in speed limit from 60kph to 40kph and the removal of angle parking along High Street adjacent to the intersection, combined with the changed location of the bus parking has allowed Council to make the decision to revert Marie Street back to two-way traffic,” Mr Howard explained.

“Due to these factors, VicRoads and Victoria Police have supported this decision.”

Works to revert Marie Street will be undertaken by Council and will be implemented by Friday 25th October.

There will be signage in place advising road users of the returned two-way intersection and this area will be monitored by Council to ensure there are no other issues or risks experienced by vehicles or pedestrians.
