Operating hours to extend at Bonnick Road

From 1 December 2019, Gympie Regional Council will extend the weekend operating hours of the Gympie waste management facility at Bonnick Road.
In today’s ordinary meeting, Councillors endorsed the new opening hours of 9am-3pm on weekends, opening one hour earlier to reduce queues that occur from time-to-time.
Waste Services Portfolio Councillor, Hilary Smerdon, said the new opening hours are a direct result of community feedback.
“Last year we went to the community to ask if the waste services we offered were working,” Cr Smerdon said.
“While we received are large amount of constructive feedback, the overwhelming issue our residents had were with the opening hours of the Bonnick Road facility.”
“We have spent some time working ways to open the facility for longer without impacting the residents’ hip pocket, with savings being made from operational changes on site.
The facility will still open 8am- 4pm on weekdays and will be closed on Good Friday, ANZAC Day and Christmas Day.
