Armidale region residents with strong business knowledge and a broad vision for economic expansion are invited to nominate to be part of an expanded regional development peak advisory group.
The Regional Growth & Place Activation Peak Advisory Committee’s Chair, Councillor Andrew Murat, said the group needed a “big picture approach in its membership and perspective”.
“We’re hoping it will include people with a diverse range of expertise. We want members will exceptional knowledge in technology, people with great experience in tourism and events, agriculture, social planning and operating businesses – all important contributors to a vibrant and growing region.
“The committee’s investigations and objectives will be underpinned by four pillars – social, economic, environmental and financial impacts – and that will require broad expertise and vision.”
The committee has been created from the merger of two former advisory groups for Council.
“The former Regional Growth and Business advisory committees were often covering very similar issues and we could see a lot of advantages in bringing these groups together,” Cr Murat said.
“It also makes a lot of sense to bring tourism into the focus of this new advisory group, as well as activities and initiatives to energise and make better use of key buildings and public spaces in our region.”
Cr Murat said the successful applicants should also have demonstrated ability in building relationships within the community.
“We’re looking for people who are passionate about our region and have a proven track record in the expertise they’re bringing to the table,” he said.
The advisory committee will include at least six community members and three councillors.
Further information about the advisory committee, including its terms of reference and selection criteria, is available on the Committee Meetings page of Council’s website.
