Changes to Springsure, Mantuan and Penjobe rain gauges

Posted on October 25, 2019

Central Highlands Regional Council wishes to advise people in the wider Springsure area of changes to their rain gauges.

Mantuan Downs TM and Springsure TM gauges have been replaced by alert (AL) gauges and Penjobe TM will be replaced before the end of the year.

People who have monitored the Mantuan Downs TM gauge should now look for Mantuan Downs (West) AL and Petrona AL on the Bureau of Meteorology website.

Springsure TM has been replaced by Springsure AL and the Penjobe TM replacement gauge will be installed on top of the tableland above Pindarri homestead by the end of the year.

Flood Mitigation Project Manager Bill Wilkinson said the changes were necessary upgrades and improve the spatial distribution of rain gauges across the area.

‘Mantuan Downs, Springsure and Penjobe rain gauges were 20 years old and connected to landlines,’ Mr Wilkinson said.

‘With advances in technology, the gauges were no longer serviceable to sync with the monitoring software.

‘The Mantuan and Penjobe gauge locations have changed based on field testing and spatial analysis by council and the Bureau of Meteorology.

‘We understand that this means people will need adapt to the change in location for the overall benefit of better widespread coverage for the purpose of flood monitoring and reporting.’
