City of Wanneroo residents are being urged to give generously to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal 2019.

The City is seeking donations of non-perishable food and toys to distribute to local people who are financially struggling this Christmas.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the City was working with a range of charitable organisations to bring Christmas cheer to people who are doing it tough in the community.

“Our community is resilient, hard-working, and caring and I know many residents will want to help people less fortunate than themselves this Christmas,” Mayor Roberts said.

“The City appreciates contributions by the community whether it is by purchasing a few extra goods when grocery shopping, buying an extra Christmas gift, or making a cash donation.”

Ashdale Secondary College Principal Kylie Bottcher said her school had been a proud supporter of the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal for three years and its Student Leadership Team would once again run a donation drive.

“This is a wonderful initiative to be involved with and it warms the hearts of our community to make a difference to those in need this festive season,” said Mrs Bottcher.

St Vincent de Paul Society Executive Manager, Member and Volunteer Services, Andrew York said the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal was very important as there were people in the local community facing hardship.

“Last financial year Vinnies supported over 2,200 people in the City of Wanneroo area alone,” Mr York said.

“Whether it is through emotional support, financial advice, help with food, clothing and furniture or through advocacy, the St Vincent de Paul Society members support clients every step of the way.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from the City of Wanneroo and all of the local community.”

Donation boxes are located at the City’s Civic Centre in Wanneroo, libraries, senior citizens centres, schools, and a number of local businesses.

Cash donations can be in person at the City’s Civic Centre at 23 Dundebar Road Wanneroo or by posting cheques to City of Wanneroo, Locked Bag 1, Wanneroo WA 6946.
