Tomakin’s Destinee Zischka is the first Y-Trainee to be officially signed-up under Eurobodalla’s innovative Employment Revolution program.

Ms Zischka will complete a part-time traineeship at Moruya Books, combining on-the-job experience with studies for a Certificate III in Retail. She said it was a great opportunity to gain new skills while being able to stay in the shire.

“There were several businesses offering these amazing opportunities,” Ms Zischka said.

“I had plenty of help during the sign-up process and I understood what was expected at each step.”

Ms Zischka said she was most excited about the opportunity to learn and work at a store she loved.

“I’m excited to go from buying the books to working in the shop that sells them,” she said.

“My goal was a job I could love and I feel that’s what I’ve got.”

Eurobodalla Council’s Rhonnie South implemented the Y-Train program in June this year, copying the organisations trainee and apprenticeship model and opening it up to businesses looking to take on young employees.

“It’s a win-win and helping coordinate a ‘whole of community’ approach to the youth trainee/apprenticeships. We’re supporting both employers and employees through the sign-up process and beyond,” Ms South said.

“I know Destinee, as a school-leaver, is thrilled to begin her career in her local community and not have to move away from the region.”
