Information on fire activity in the Lithgow City Council area.
Situation A bush fire is currently burning in the Wollemi National Park, in the vicinity of Gospers Mountain, adjacent to the Running Stream. The fire was detected on Saturday 27 October and is currently being controlled. The fire is burning in a very remote area of the National Park within forested areas and has currently burnt approximately 1,500ha of National Park and a small area private property. The fire is burning slowly in all directions along very steep terrain. Current weather conditions are pushing the fire primarily in a westerly direction towards Coorongooba Creek and other planned containment lines to the north, east and south. More than 30 fire fighters from National Parks & Wildlife Service and NSW Rural Fire Service are working to contain the fire, supported by three aircraft and bulldozers. Residents in Capertee Valley, Ilford, Newnes, Wolgan Valley and Putty may experience smoke in the area throughout the week. People are requested to avoid travelling to the area so as to not impede fire fighting operations. Advice People with health issues should take appropriate precautions, such as staying indoors and closing all windows and doors to protect themselves from smoke. Properties are not expected to come under threat with the current weather forecast and remote location of the fire. If the fire approaches your property, follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan.
