Help shape the future of Surfers Paradise

One of the city’s major tourism, retail and residential precincts is set to get a new shape - and you’re invited to be a part of it.

Mayor Tom Tate wants all residents and visitors to have their say on the draft Surfers Paradise Master Plan.

Developed in close consultation with the community, the plan aims to enhance the lifestyle of the neighbourhood and improve the potential of business, nightlife and events.

“The master plan aims to create a “pedestrian-focused” area and provide improved and more convenient connections throughout the entire precinct,” said Mayor Tate.

“Surfers Paradise is a family-oriented destination and already one of the most popular places in our city for entertainment, night life and business,’’ he said.  

“This plan will ensure the area remains a dynamic and exciting neighbourhood to work, live, play, host events and enhance its identity as a major global destination for visitors.

“As the Gold Coast continues to grow at one of the fastest rates in Australia, the City is committed to ensuring our centres continue to meet the lifestyle and commercial needs of our residents and businesses.”

Key features of the draft plan include a refresh to Cavill Mall, an extension of the foreshore area north of Staghorn Avenue, investigations for a public plaza on the esplanade at beach end of Cavill Mall and street scaping enhancements in the business centre.

A total of $1.5million has already been allocated to the Cavill Mall refresh, which includes new surface treatments, additional planting, decorative lighting and replacing declining Norfolk trees with new large shade trees.

Submissions can be made in person at the big red heart, centre of Cavill Mall from Wednesday 30 October to Tuesday 12 November between 9am and 3pm.

All participants can go in the draw to win a $500 gift voucher. 

The community consultation period runs from 30 October - 26 November.
