“For the week ending 25 October, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council staff have completed a number of concrete works while also assisting in the preparation of the Halloween event,” said Mayor Thompson. “In line with requests from the community, a concrete footpath has been constructed to link Tank Street to Montague Street. With this work completed, an identified missing footpath link has been resolved and residents of Sandford Avenue now have pedestrian access to Main Street. Next, Halloween preparations were completed by staff in anticipation for this fantastic event. Road closures were effected, Cook Street Plaza was prepared and bollards and fencing were installed around the library,” said Mayor Thompson.

“In the last week Council’s rural works staff have continued their focus on the completion of four major renewal projects,” noted Mayor Thompson. “Both Hazelgrove Road, Cuthill Road preparation works are completed. Additional to this work, preparation works nearing completion on Glen Davis Road and Magpie Hollow Road. I’m very happy to announce that sealing works will commence on these assets next week. In total, almost 10 kilometers of new seal will be laid, at this time. Additional to this, the sealing of Hughes Lane is complete. While works continue in these areas, I strongly urge residents to exhibit caution and adhere to signposted changes to traffic conditions.”

“Lastly, I’d like to thank Council’s staff for their ongoing commitment to our local emergency services during times of crisis,” said Mayor Thompson. “Currently, Lithgow City Council is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all local RFS vehicles, buildings and services. On a daily basis, Council’s mechanics work tirelessly on the repair and servicing of RFS trucks and passenger vehicles to ensure they remain in good shape for the upcoming bushfire season. Additionally, trades staff work to maintain and improve RFS buildings,” said Mayor Thompson. “I’d also like to congratulate all staff who worked alongside the Lithgow Police in the management and clean-up of a spill of contaminated material on the Great Western Highway near Wallerawang. It is Council’s spirit of collaboration and community that ensures it can deliver high quality services, within its available means.”
