CBCity recognised as Smart City

City of Canterbury Bankstown has taken out top honours at the second annual Smart Cities Awards overnight, hosted by Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand.

CBCity won two of 13 categories - Smart City Partnership and Smart City Organisation Transformation - and was highly commended in the Smart Cities Strategy category.

"I was so proud that our City was recognised as finalists in five categories, but to walk away with a win in two of them was fantastic," Mayor Khal Asfour said. 

  "This result is testament to our efforts in becoming a smarter city. 

  "Since announcing our ambitions to become smarter in everything we do, we have developed our Smart City Roadmap, with the help of residents and businesses. We have also hosted a number of events, and engaged with planners and policy makers. This is all aimed at being the smartest city we can be!"

CBCity won the Smart City Partnership category for its collaboration with Place Design Group, to host the Future Street Exhibition in North Terrace, Bankstown, in June.

"We transformed North Terrace to give the community an opportunity to see, touch and feel what a future smart CBCity could look like," Mayor Asfour said. 

  "The transformation included creating wider footpaths, adding additional trees and greenery, installing smart bins and benches, and showcasing smart vehicles, e-bikes and e-scooters.

"We also used this event to obtain community feedback on the Bankstown Complete Streets Transport and Place Plan, and Smart CBCity Roadmap, which Council was highly commended for at last night’s awards.

"As the largest council in NSW, by population, we have a responsibility and duty to pave the way forward and set the standard for smart cities state-wide."
