Carers Week 2019
Carers provide unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, alcohol/other drug issue or frail aged.
Caring for someone is both rewarding and challenging. Carers Week is a time for us all to acknowledge the great work done by carers.
The City’s Community Care Services provide social clubs for eligible people living with dementia or disability. This support offers respite for carers.
Please visit our Community Care page for more information, or contact our friendly team on 9267 9055 to determine eligibility and availability.
Heart to heart with a carer
Kathleen cares for husband Noel, who was diagnosed with dementia about 10 years ago. With love and good humour, Kathleen and Noel face the day to day challenges the diagnosis brings.
Noel has been attending West Swan Club for some time. He thoroughly enjoys days spent with his friends, reviving his competitive spirit playing games, participating in activities or having fun with the kids when he and other members visit the local child care centre.
Kathleen has friends in the Carer Support Group and attends bi-annual Carer Forums hosted by Community Care Services. Together they graciously share their ‘living life with dementia’ story in a frank and honest discussion. Listen to their interesting story here.
