Support strengthens NAIDOC Week

Council support for seven events contributed to the success of NAIDOC Week 2019, celebrated in Cairns from 5-13 July.

Each year, NAIDOC Week provides the opportunity for local indigenous communities and individuals to showcase their rich and diverse cultures, strengths and resilience. The NAIDOC Week program in Cairns this year included 25 activities and events that recognised and celebrated the theme of ‘Truth, Voice, Treaty’.

Council provided financial and/or in kind support to: NAIDOC March; Friday in the Park; NJL Charity Bush Tucker dinner and film premiere; Cairns NAIDOC fun run; Indigenous Big Serve (tennis); Cairns NAIDOC family fun sports day; and NAIDOC First5Forever Storytimes.
