Improving urban water quality to the Reef

Published: 23 Oct 2019

Cairns Regional Council will take part in a pilot program that aims to improve urban water quality flows to the Great Barrier Reef.

The draft Urban Water Stewardship Framework looks primarily at water discharge, and management from waste water treatment plants, urban catchments and new and established developments.

Development of this urban framework follows the success of the stewardship framework in place for key agricultural industries in Great Barrier Reef catchment.

To be hosted by Cairns Regional Council and organised by the Office of the Great Barrier Reef, the pilot will consist of two half-day workshops held late November or early December, and include participants from relevant government agencies, industry and regulators.
