The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is urging residents to take steps now to make sure they are prepared for the upcoming bush fire season.
Ahead of the bush fire season, the Shire has published its annual Firebreak and Fuel Hazard Reduction Notice 2019/20.
The Notice, which will be sent to all property owners in the Shire from October 1, includes details on legal firebreak requirements, burning restrictions and how to obtain a permit from your local Fire Control Officer.
Firebreaks and other fuel hazard reduction preparations must be completed by 30 November, 2019, and be maintained until 31 May, 2020.
Shire President Michelle Rich said everyone had a role to play in reducing the risk of bush fires.
“Compliance with the Firebreak and Fuel Hazard Reduction Notice is essential in reducing the risk of fire incidents,” Cr Rich said.
“The Shire has well trained and very capable Volunteer Fire Brigades, but we want to ensure that their job is kept as easy as possible in the event of an emergency.
“You may think the Notice is not relevant if you’re living in a suburban area, but the Notice contains tips and information about how to prepare in the event of a fire, which could make a huge difference to you and your loved ones.”
