Nominations are now open for the 2020 Fairfield City Women's Day Award

Now in its second year the Award identifies women who live in the Fairfield Local Government Area that champion excellence in business and leadership in their careers.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the Award provides a platform for local female entrepreneurs, leaders and innovators to receive the recognition and honour they deserve. The Award recognises women who live in the LGA, but also aims to recognise women who are successful in their chosen field, wherever their workplace may be.

“The Award is an opportunity to recognise those women who make a difference in our community, particularly those who influence and inspire others,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Recognising local women in leadership encourages ambition, empowers confidence and inspires new leaders now and in the future.

“We all know successful women who go about their business quietly, whether she is a lawyer working in the city or a medical researcher in a hospital, now is the time to recognise them and to inspire other young women to achieve their goals,” Mayor Carbone said.

“If you know of a colleague, friend or family member that fits the profile of the Fairfield City Women’s Day Award then I encourage you to nominate them.”

Fairfield entrepreneur Le Ho was the inaugural winner of the 2019 Award.

Ms Ho said it was an incredible honour to be appointed as the winner.

“I’ve always proudly called Fairfield my home, where I live and work. It means a lot to me to be recognised by my home town and amongst the people who have inspired, encouraged and mentored me to help me become the person I am today,” she said.

Ms Ho was nominated for taking her business Capital City Waste Services from the brink of liquidation to a $10 million turnover.

Today she sits on the board of directors of Western Sydney University – The College, helping deliver Australia’s first industry-endorsed Waste Management course at a university.

Ms Ho hopes that her story will inspire the next generation of women to never lose sight of their goals.

“When faced with adversity, never ever give up. Take yourself back to the beginning and remind yourself of the reason why you started the journey. Go back and look for that entrepreneurial flame and when you find that burning desire again, pick yourself up and keep moving forward.”
