While Lithgow City Council provides a number of off-leash dog parks throughout the Lithgow region, ongoing damage is being caused to Council maintained sports fields by off-leash dogs.
Council has recently been made aware of ongoing damage being caused to public sporting assets, through their use as off-leash dog areas. With Council staff performing weekly ongoing maintenance in preparation for upcoming sports seasons, sporting clubs are expressing their disappointment in the condition and damage of these assets.
Council staff work very closely with our sporting associations to meet their needs, sometimes in the face of limited time and resources. The public take great pride in our local sporting culture and these fields play a key part in showing local support.
Noting this, Council provides and maintains dog parks and recreation areas for many other types of recreational activities. All residents are strongly urged to adhere to legislated signage posted at Council parks and sports fields and restrict off-leash playtime with their dogs to designated areas.
Should further information be required regarding the location of Council’s off-leash dog areas and public parks, please contact Lithgow City Council by phone on (02) 6354 9999, or email at [email protected].
