Making Regional Big Bash History

For the first time ever, an official rebel Women’s Big Bash League game will be played in regional South Australia. The landmark game to be held at Nuriootpa’s Centennial Park on Saturday 16 November, will see your Adelaide Strikers women go head to head with the Melbourne Stars.

Your Striker’s team will feature a host of talent including Captain Suzie Bates, experienced UK import Lauren Winfield and Barossa and Light Cricket Association’s own Darcie Brown, who at just 16 is the youngest player (male or female) to sign a contract with the Strikers.

Nuriootpa Cricket Club committee member, Brett Lydeamore, who has played a key role in facilitating the hosting of the game, says, “This is a great opportunity to enjoy high calibre cricket, and hosting the game is certainly a feather in the cap for country community cricket.”

There will be plenty of pre-game entertainment from 12.30pm including inflatables and activities for the kids, free giveaways and music. Full bar facilities will be available through the Nuriootpa Cricket Club while the Nuriootpa Football Club will have BBQ food and canteen facilities on offer.

The Barossa Council Manager, Community Projects, Rebecca Tappert said, “We are really pleased to be part of bringing such a high calibre event to our community and is something we are keen to do more of in the future – it is an excellent opportunity for sports tourism in the region.”
