Situation
A large bushfire is currently burning in a very remote area of the Wollemi National Park, near Gospers Mountain, there are no current threats to any populated areas. The fire has burnt approximately 10,000 ha of National Park and a small area of private property, receiving 7mm of rain overnight and has helped to slow the fire spread. The fire is burning slowly to the east and south along very steep terrain and is east of Coorongooba Crk, north of Capertee River, west of Girribung Crk and south of Ovens Crk. Remote Area Fire fighting crews from National Parks & Wildlife Service continue working to contain the large fire and to keep it away from any populated areas. This will include a lot of work over coming weeks to extinguish all hot spots and burning trees over a very large area once the fire is contained – to keep the fire under control. The crews are being supported by seven aircraft and two dozers to control the fire.Advice
People are requested to avoid going to the area so as to avoid impeding fire fighting operations. Coorongooba Campground remains closed. Residents and visitors to the areas of Glen Davis, Capertee Valley, Ilford, Newnes, Wolgan Valley, Lithgow, along Bells Line of Road and Putty Road may experience smoke in the area throughout the coming days due to predicted winds from the south east and west. People with health issues should take appropriate precautions, such as staying indoors and closing all windows and doors to protect themselves from smoke. Residents and visitors to this area are encouraged to keep up todate with the fire situation and review your Bush Fire Survival Plan.Information
