A family fun day out will be held in Emu Park’s Bell Park next weekend, to help residents learn more about coastal hazards on the Capricorn Coast as part of Tsunami and Storm Surge Information Day.
Mayor Bill Ludwig said the inaugural community event held in 2017 gained a positive response from the local community who were keen to learn how they could be better prepared for future weather events.
“As Central Queenslanders, we understand the impacts from natural disasters can vary from minor inconveniences such as loss of power, to becoming potentially catastrophic with major infrastructure damage and loss of life,” Mayor Ludwig said.
“There is only a short window of time to get to safety during a major weather events like a Tsunami, and it’s also difficult to predict their scale and impact, so it’s vital to ensure that as a community, we are well-prepared for every possible weather scenario.
“Council would like to sincerely thank all of the agencies and emergency services involved in making this event possible, as we continue to work collectively towards making our community more resilient, educated and better prepared each storm and cyclone season.”
Deputy Mayor Nigel Hutton said emergency service agencies will provide the community with valuable interactive displays, Q&A sessions with Emergency Services Personnel and other fun activities throughout the day.
“I encourage all residents across the Capricorn Coast and the wider Livingstone Shire community to come along and find out more about natural disasters and what simple steps you can take to protect what’s most important to you,” Cr Hutton said.
This event is held in partnership with the Queensland Government’s Queensland Reconstruction Authority’s Get Ready Queensland programme.
Bring the kids along to enjoy free amusement rides, face painting and the chance to win a prize when they create their very own Disaster Planning Booklet with the help from participating emergency services agencies.
The event will be held on Sunday 3 November from 10am to 2pm in Bell Park, Emu Park. Visit https://www.livingstone.qld.gov.au/ for more info.
