New smart LED lighting, CCTV integration, smart parking and free public WiFi now operating in the Yeppoon Town Centre have been installed to contribute to building a safe, connected and liveable community for residents and visitors to the Capricorn Coast.
Mayor Bill Ludwig said Yeppoon’s CBD is a vibrant hub featuring a wide variety of retail, restaurants and service operators and it was important to not only improve safety for businesses, but also for patrons while visiting the area.
“These works have made the Yeppoon CBD a smarter, safer, and more community-friendly space, with the new additions forming part of the Yeppoon Town Centre Smart Lighting Project,” Cr Ludwig said.
“The public WiFi, LED pedestrian lighting, and CCTV has been installed throughout sections of the Yeppoon Town Centre (James Street, Normanby Street, Mary Street and Hill Street).
“Smart Parking sensors and pay stations were also installed around the Yeppoon Lagoon Precinct as part of the project.
“Council was fortunate to receive funding of $297,000 from the Queensland Government under the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program for the project, which was co-funded by Livingstone Shire Council providing $198,000.
“Council would like to sincerely thank the Queensland Government for its valued funding contribution that will help advance the Yeppoon CBDs capability through the use of new technologies.”
Assistant Minister for Education and Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga said residents will get to enjoy the Yeppoon Town Centre in a safer, more convenient way.
“As this project is a first for the Capricorn Coast, we hope to see these upgrades assisting in increased foot traffic and longer visitation in the town centre for local businesses via improved public amenities,” Mrs Lauga said.
“This project is a great example of what integrated community infrastructure can achieve in enhancing key locations for our community and the many benefits that shoppers and visitors can experience while enjoying the beautiful Capricorn Coast.
“I’m proud to work with Livingstone Shire Council in delivering this project, which is another great example of what can be achieved when levels of government work in partnership.”
