Change to Traffic conditions as new valve is installed in Railway Parade, Lithgow on the 7th of November 2019.
Council will be installing a new valve that will allow the shutting down of the 300mm water main in Railway Parade of the 7th of November 2019.
This work will involve the closing of some of the southern lane of Railway Parade closest to Bridge Street to allow the contractors to commence installation as part of Council’s water mains renewal project.
Upon completion of this initial installation, further works will commence the 11th of November 2019 so that road renewals can be undertaken within the area.
There has been considerable delay in completing this project as Council has been awaiting receipt of a highly specialized valve to be manufactured from a company in the United States.
This particular valve had to be individually made, as the pipe size and type are abnormal and these valves are generally manufactured upon request. Unfortunately there are no other alternatives within Australia.
Due to the inability to shut down the system during such repairs, “instavalves” are in place temporarily, but due to the depth of the water main these “instavalve” tops extend above the current road surface level and may present a hazard to vehicles.
To prevent damage to the vehicles and the infrastructure, water barriers have been placed to divert traffic around the “ïnstavalve” stem and box.
Council apologises for the ongoing interruption caused and would like to thank the community for their patience. Please observe all road rules and obey signage within the area.
