Waterfront weekend, setting Clyde foreshore in motion

The Batemans Bay waterfront will see a weekend of art and music, activities and movies this month.

Eurobodalla Council is working with the community to stage the mini-festival to encourage people to meet along the Clyde Street foreshore on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 November.

Mayor Liz Innes said Council wants to set the Batemans Bay waterfront in motion.

“We want more people to visit more often and stay longer. And that means locals first and foremost,” she said.

“The waterfront weekend is part our work with the community to achieve this – to see what can be done, talk about how we can achieve it, and have a great time doing it.

“Local groups and businesses are really getting into it and will be running events over the weekend, including live bands, art, boxing and body sculpting classes. You can even get up close with llamas!

“And on Saturday night, bring a picnic and your chair or blanket to the open-air cinema for a screening of The Greatest Showman, thanks to the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club.”

Cr Innes said the waterfront weekend is part of Council’s Batemans Bay foreshore activation project.

“Council staff will be there both days, between 9am and 4pm in the Francis Guy building, looking for responses to the ideas and options put forward earlier this year by businesses and the wider community to encourage better use of the waterfront,” she said.

“We’ve developed the main themes – more river access, more food options and a flow of people using the waterfront into the CBD. More business, less vacant shops.”

“Urban planners Inspiring Place are helping us with concepts and options to make that happen, and now we’re looking for feedback on these ideas before developing a masterplan and strategy. Wait ‘til you see them – amazing!

“And there’s still plenty of opportunity for new ideas.

“We’re really open to people thinking outside the square when it comes to using the waterfront and CBD in different ways.

“As an example, Council will temporarily occupy several car spots on Clyde Street over the weekend, turning them into a mini-park, testing ideas on how we use public space.”
