New structures bridge the gap for Chinchilla locals

Chinchilla locals can now enjoy their daily exercise regime even more, as Western Downs Regional Council commences works to upgrade a series of pedestrian bridges along the popular Charleys Creek recreation precinct.

Council is replacing the existing pedestrian bridges over Charleys Creek with fresh, modern structures that tie in with the bridge designs at the Chinchilla Botanic Parkland.

Spokesperson for Parks, Open Spaces, and Cemeteries Cr Carolyn Tillman said the upgrades would give the community more opportunities to head outdoors and make the most of their local area.

“The Western Downs is a fabulous place to live, work and play and we are committed to providing a range of recreational spaces and facilities that the community will love,” Cr Tillman said.

“The old bridges have reached the end of their lifespan and will be upgraded in addition to Council’s $424,000 commitment to increase the region’s footpath network over this financial year, with works to be completed in coming weeks.”

The new bridges will enhance pedestrian connectivity in the local park area, which is a popular spot for residents and community groups including the Charleys Creek parkrun.

Charleys Creek parkrun Event Director Ronald Thompson said the upgraded bridges would further entice people and their puppies to head outdoors and enjoy their local community.

“Our parkrun attracts anywhere between 50 and 70 people to the area each weekend and this project will help provide both a scenic and well-connected track for our group,” Mr Thompson said.

“It’s fantastic to see so many people out and about and smiling and these upgrades will only encourage more people to come along and have some active fun in our local community.”
