The City of Fremantle is offering residents the opportunity to learn practical ways to live a more sustainable lifestyle and take real action on climate change.
This Living Smart short course will be run over four Thursday evenings starting from 28 November at The Meeting Place in South Fremantle.
The course is free for City of Fremantle ratepayers and residents. People from outside of Fremantle can join a waitlist for any remaining places.
The Living Smart course will be facilitated by environmental educator Shani Graham who, along with partner Tim Darby, is well known in Fremantle for operating sustainable bed and breakfast accommodation The Painted Fish, founding the Hulbert Street Sustainability Fiesta and creating their latest development Ecoburbia in Beaconsfield.
Ms Graham said the team had presented over 45 Living Smart courses but this one would be a bit different as the topics covered will be chosen by the participants.
“Topics up for discussion might range from solar passive house design right through to keeping chooks or preserving food from the garden - basically anything people are passionate about and inspired to learn more about,” Ms Graham said.
“As well as the four sessions at The Meeting Place we’ll have a field trip to see our newest project - a more resilient home at Ecoburbia.
“The goal is to not just to lessen our carbon footprint but also to build household and community resilience into the future. This is a great opportunity to join with other like-minded people to learn, share and change together.”
The Living Smart course will be run over four Thursday night sessions from 6:30-9pm starting on 28 November until 19 December. The field trip to Ecoburbia will be on Sunday 15 December, at either 9am or 2pm.
