For National Recycling Week, why not take a moment to be conscious about consumption? Recycling doesn’t just happen with your yellow-lid bin collection – there are so many ways individuals, groups, businesses and organisations can make sustainable choices that ‘close the loop’.
Avoid, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle – it’s not ARRRRd to be kind to the planet and it’s easy to find some inspiration at educational events in the Eurobodalla this week.
For the young ones, the shire’s libraries will repurpose storytime with a sustainable theme; a reading of the ‘Clean and Green Gang Discover Recycling’ followed by activities where the kids can repurpose items.
Later in the week, learn how to recycle nature’s way at one of the popular home-composting and worm-farming workshops.
Eurobodalla Council also recycles difficult items such as old fridges and freezers after degassing them from harmful greenhouse gases, and shreds organic garden waste into mulch that can be reused on garden beds.
Items which can’t go in your yellow-lid bin but can be recycled at the shire’s Waste Management Centres include mattresses, tyres, polystyrene, empty chemical containers, batteries and fluorescent tubes and globes.
