Central Highlands Water, in partnership with the City of Ballarat, are providing three new permanent drinking water fountains at the Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre, just in time for National Recycling Week (11-15 Nov.)
General Manager of Customer and Community, Ms Jacqueline O’Neill said, “We are very excited to be partnering with the City of Ballarat and the Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre to reduce single-use plastic waste.”
“Central Highlands Water is committed to supporting its communities to refill their reusable bottles with over 70 water stations across the Central Highlands region.
Through this initiative, we are not only encouraging hydration, but we are joining forces to eliminate plastic waste and promoting the use of reusable bottles,” said Ms O’Neill.
City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Ben Taylor thanked Central Highlands Water for providing the water fountains, which will help reduce customers' reliance on single-use plastic bottles at the Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre.
"This is a simple initiative that can have a major impact. With 48,000 people accessing the Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre each month, access to the new water fountains will go a long way towards creating a healthier environment," he says.
"We encourage our customers to bring their reusable water bottles to the centre and to refill their water bottles at the new water fountains to help us win the war on plastic waste."
Single-use plastic bottles can end up anywhere, with only 36% of it being recycled. In Australia, we spend more than $680 million a year on bottled water with half of these bottles going to landfill.
As we approach the warmer months, the installation of new water fountains will make it easier for the community to stay hydrated while visiting the Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre and its wide variety of facilities and programs.
Using tap water and refilling your reusable bottle is a better choice for the environment as well as your health.
