Rain boosts spirits and prices at Blackall...

Blackall agents yarded 2985 cattle for a wet October weaner and store sale on Friday.

A very good quality yarding of feeder and weaner cattle were presented.

Local rain saw improvements in all store categories with prices remaining firm on prime cattle.

Cattle were drawn from Blackall, Aramac, Tambo, Jericho, Barcaldine, Longreach, Winton and Muttaburra.

Bulls under 450kg sold to 198c, average 186c, and bulls over 450kg made 290c, average 256.5c.

Cows 300-400kg sold to 210c, average 169c, cows 400-500kg made 268c, average 207c, and cows over 500kg reached 270c, to average 238c.

Heifers under 220kg made 246c, average 188c, heifers 220-280kg sold to 252c, averaging 219c, heifers 280-350kg reached 276c, average 253c, heifers 350-450kg made 275c, average 257c, and heifers over 450kg sold to 268c, averaging 265c.

Steers under 220kg sold to 300c, averaged 277c, steers 220-280kg sold to 310c, averaging 285c, steers 280-350kg made 310c, average 285c, steers 350-400kg reached 315c, average 300c, steers 400-550kg made 316c, averaged 282c, and steers over 550kg sold to 310c, averaged 287c.

Swan Hill Cattle Co, Swan Hill, Blackall sold very good quality Santa/ Charolais feeder steers for 308.2c at 410kg to return $1263/head also selling good heavy cows for 250.2c at 585kg to return $1465.

CA Hauff and Son, Colart, Blackall sold Hereford cross steers for 300c at 286kg to return $860/head.

S and E Osbourne, Eurolie, Barcaldine sold a quality run Angus/Santa cross steers to 300c at 342kg to return $1027/head.

JA and CJ Kyle McKinlay sold a good draft of Brahman/ Brahman cross feeder steers for 294c at 425kg to return $1250/head.

Taree Grazing, Taree, Aramac sold Droughtmaster heifers for 270c at 423kg to return $1142/head also selling weaner heifers for 246c at 270kg to return $665/head.

The Keogh family, Amaroo, Blackall sold feeder heifers for 275c at 348kg to return $958/head.

Clarenden Cattle Company, Clarenden, Blackall sold good quality feeder heifers for 266c at 368kg to return $980/head.

MJ & SE Cameron, Romulus, Blackall sold very good Santa cross heifers for 260c at 300kg to return $781/head.

GJ and JM Bambling, Glenavon, Aramac sold Brahman bullocks for 304c at 607kg to return $1848/head.
