BMCC STATEMENT: Catastrophic bush fire danger
Blue Mountains 11 Nov 2019
Due to the catastrophic bush fire danger rating for tomorrow (Tuesday, 12 November 2019) Blue Mountains City Council strongly recommends that the community avoid entering bushland areas given that any fire that starts will be uncontrollable and will spread quickly. This includes walking tracks, lookouts and other natural area visitor precincts.

Blue Mountains City Council campgrounds at Old Ford Reserve Megalong Valley, Blackheath Glen Megalong Valley, Mount York and Cathedral of Ferns Mt Wilson are CLOSED, in the interest of public safety.

Please note: The Blue Mountains National Park will be closed until Thursday, 14 November.  For more information on the National Park area, go to the NSW NPWS website.

Mayor Mark Greenhill said it’s important for the community to remain vigilant.

“Listen to the advice we are being given by emergency services. Be alert.

“To our emergency services workers, I express the gratitude of our community.”

The public is advised to: •    Consider your safety and postpone any visits to Council reserves, until the catastrophic bush fire danger rating ends. •    If you do proceed to visit Blue Mountains reserves, Council recommends that you remain in close vicinity to transport and be prepared to leave urgently. •    If you are visiting the Blue Mountains, keep up to date on fire incidents and bushfire status via the NSW RFS website www.rfs.nsw.gov.au, or the Fires Near Me NSW app, or local radio. 

There is currently a Total Fire Ban in the Blue Mountains.
