Upgrades to commence on Gingers Lane, Weston

Cessnock City Council will shortly commence much-needed works to upgrade Gingers Lane, Weston to make the heavily utilised road safer for all road users.

Preliminary works are underway and will ramp up during mid-November. A road closure will be in place on Gingers Lane between Grey Gums Drive and Frame Drive (9am to 3pm) from the 11 November to 22 November and a 24 hour road closure will occur from 25 November until 20 December 2019. Detours will be in place via Frame Drive and Sawyers Gully Road and residents will retain access to their properties throughout the road closure period.

The road will be reopened for the Christmas period and will close again in late January.

Director of Works and Infrastructure, Justin Fitzpatrick-Barr said road closures are unavoidable to complete these vital works.

“Closing the road at various points during the project will ensure we are able to get the job done more efficiently. It’s also safer for road users and the work crews delivering the project.”

“We have been engaging with local residents over the past few months ahead of commencing works to ensure residents are aware of the project and to ensure Council is fully aware of resident concerns about the project. We thank everyone for their participation and feedback” added Justin.   The project will involve pavement improvements, road widening, kerb and gutter installation, drainage upgrades and the installation of turning lanes.

Gingers Lane is a major transport route, experiencing high levels of traffic since the opening of the Hunter Expressway. The upgrade will allow it to be classified as a regional road with Transport NSW.A regional road is eligible for additional funding from the NSW Government due to the importance of the road.
