Surveying of local road network underway

From now until the end of November, Cessnock City Council is surveying our local road network to provide up-to-date information on the condition of our roads and inform future planning.  

Council’s adopted Resourcing Strategy encompasses an Asset Management Plan for roads. This Plan is a tool to manage the community’s most valuable asset, as well as meeting the reporting requirements of the NSW Government. It requires the assessment of the condition and valuation of the road network across the local government area.  

As part of its testing, Council will be using state of the art equipment, technology and cameras to survey the condition of our roads using an Automatic Road Analyser.  

Council’s Director of Works and Infrastructure, Justin Fitzpatrick-Barr said this process will ensure that we have up to date information to allow us to determine the most appropriate allocation of resources to get the greatest long term outcome.  

“We have over 1000km of road in our local government area and the results from this process will help inform the way we prioritise and spend our limited resources.”  

“Our most recent community satisfaction survey overwhelmingly highlighted the importance of local roads to the community and we want to assure people that this is one of our top priorities as well,” added Justin.
