Six community initiatives will share in $5,080 after successfully applying for funding from the Gannawarra Community Resilience Grants Program.
Developed by the Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee, the program has been supported financially by the Department of Health and Human Services, and is designed to support a variety of small activities that promote social connectedness and mental health and wellbeing.
“Council congratulates these six projects on receiving funding, which aim to keep our communities connected during these tough times,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.
“These projects will benefit residents throughout the Gannawarra, with support being given for community events, Christmas celebrations and support services.”
Projects and groups that have received funding are:
Quambatook Show; The development of an art program incorporating the Murrabit Community Garden at the Murrabit Men’s Shed, Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden at Murrabit Group School and the Murrabit Country Market; The Kerang Supporting Children and Families For All Levels of Disability Group Christmas celebrations, supported by Northern District Community Health; Murray Human Service’s plans to develop outdoor benches and chairs for lunch and breaks,; Catalina Old Time Band; and The Military Brotherhood Military Motorcycle Club, which is working with the Kerang and District Returned and Services League to establish a veteran assistance centre for the Gannawarra.“Not-for-profit organisations based within the Gannawarra can still apply for up to $1,000 in funding, with applications open until 5pm on Friday, 13 December 2019,” Mayor Learmonth said.
“Program guidelines, which can be viewed on Council’s website, detail priority areas that applications need to consider. These range from events that support community connectedness, workshops that build the capacity to develop localised solutions to climate change, community bus trips to locations within the Gannawarra that will boost the local economy, Christmas celebrations in small towns and activities that promote the Five Ways to Wellbeing – Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give.”
